Crowdfunding Kickoff 2026!

Pushing the Rock is a three-part documentary series from the John Brown Project. Put your shoulder to it.

If systemic racism ended, when did it end? Help finish Pushing the Rock, a three-part documentary series. $14,000 unlocks CT Humanities matching funds.

Some people say the question of race in America is already settled. That systemic racism ended with the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement, or a Black president. When Did It End?, the first film in the series, asks for the date.

We walk through American history and let the record speak for itself. Historians, musicians, and firsthand witnesses carry one through line, including a Tuskegee Airman who served his country and came home to face the same discrimination he had been sent overseas to fight.

Pushing the Rock was selected by the America 250 Connecticut Commission to help represent Connecticut’s 250th anniversary.

The three films

  • When Did It End?

  • Krow

  • Before the Battle Hymn

The goal
$14,000. Reaching it unlocks matching funds from a CT Humanities grant that makes all three films possible.

Every donor is recognized on the John Brown Project Wall of Honor. Claim your spot today.
